MELA Conference 2007Circle February 28th on your calendar for the 2008 MELA Annual Conference. Once again we will be at the Chicago Botanic Garden for a day of learning and networking. Attendees to this year's event said they were inspired by the great line up of speakers and the 2008 conference promises to be just as good. The theme of the conference will be health. We will examine health in terms of fiscal health of your green business, personal health and why healthy landscapes relate to healthy people, and environmental health and why green industry professionals have such an important role in shaping the health of our local environments. More information to follow in future updates.

Habitat Clinic--Audubon
8/25/07, 9 to noon
Registration required
The Habitat Project and Volunteer Stewardship Network invite all restoration volunteers, monitors, interpreters advocates, and interested members of the public to join us this summer for the last Habitat Clinic of the summer.
Pleasant Valley Conservation Area is a large and diverse site, with 1,778 acres of woodland, wetland, and grassland occupying a former youth camp. Active restoration of the site's natural areas is well underway, with both volunteer workdays and staff programs in place. One of the more ambitious projects of 2007 is the wetland restoration of a portion of the Laughing Creek drainage, which will include the removal of drain tile once used to dewater areas for agricultural purposes.
John Peters, restoration ecologist for the McHenry County Conservation District will explain the restoration project. Steward Steve Francis will describe the volunteer activities at Pleasant Valley. Volunteer Greg Rajsky will be on hand to help interpret the site and offer additional information about volunteer opportunities in McHenry County.
Please register by mailing Shelley Ancheta at sancheta@audubon.org or by calling 847-965-9239.
