MELA 360 Fall Event
Date: September 15, 2011
Nearly 90 MELA members and guests gathered at AMCOL International in Hoffman Estates to see their Silver LEED building and to see how light, space, building, and nature work together in one corporate environment to create the whole—a sustainable workplace environment supporting a sustainable mission.
We learned about the construction and planting of the roof garden, the sustainable drainage system, and the native plant design and installation in the parking area from Mike Curry, Midwest Trading Horticultural Supplies and Grace Koehler, Pizzo Native Plant Nursery.
We welcomed students from College of DuPage and Triton College horticulture programs. Special guests from government agencies included municipal staff from Skokie, Wheeling, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, and Deerfield, the North West Municipal Council, and the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County.
A brief program introduced new MELA board members and plans for 2012.
