Formerly a prosecutor in the office of the United States Attorney and a member and assistant majority leader in the Illinois House of Representatives and an elected official in Cook County, Moseley-Braun served in the Senate from 1993-1999. President Clinton appointed her ambassador to New Zealand and Samoa, where she served from 1999-2001. Currently, she is the president of Ambassador Organics, which sells organic coffee, tea and spices that have been fairly traded.

As the mission statement for the company proclaims, " By sourcing the finest certified organic and Biodynamic products and ingredients available in the world, Ambassador Organics directly participates in providing farmers with markets in which they can maintain the dignity of their work and the integrity of their farm. Ambassador Organics translates these values into great tasting convenient products that respect the time pressures and lifestyles of American consumers. Ambassador Organics also reflects the economic, social, and philosophical commitment to doing well while doing good. It functions as a transparent financial engine that respects and promotes the source of food, its producers and the wellbeing of the workers who created the bounty. "
